  1. 1. I believe everyone can change as a person, disregarding mental illness. People can have experiences such as jail that will make them change their mind about how they are living. In the article, it says OJ Simpson was upbeat and exited to get on with his life. He said he wanted to focus on his kids and his family, which to me sounds as though he has changed. Other athletes can change as well, usually with a life changing experience, such as this one. Everyone can change and I think OJ can as well.
    2. Deciding to stay in Nevada might not be so bad, but moving to Florida is going to be hard. Florida attorney general Pam Bondi has already taken action to prevent OJ from moving to Florida. In addition, communities that he moves into will be unsure if he is trustworthy and probably complain or move out of the neighborhood. If he moves into a big city, I think the whole city will complain about his appearance, as people will not trust him.
    3. 9 years is too short especially with an original 33 year sentence. Not only was it too short for this sentence, he was also a murder suspect beforehand which should've played some roll in his release. I think the reason he was released on parol is because he was a model prisoner and he apologized for his crimes, saying never to do it again.
    4. OJ is exited to get his life back. I think he has changed and I think he will be a lot better coming out of this sentence. Focusing on his family is something huge in which he can prioritize his time with. OJ will not focus on his past, but instead his future and what he has planned.

  2. Do you believe athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as a person?
Yes, I believe athletes like OJ have the ability to change over time. I believe that athletes should be given a second chance and there are many individuals who have learned from their mistakes in the past. Joe Mixon was an individual who assaulted a women and was suspended for the 2014 NCAA football season for his actions. I believe that he has learned from his mistakes and has grown and matured as a human being. He was drafted by the Bengals in the second round and has been contributing to his team as a rookie.
What will be the reaction of the city/town where he ends up living?
I believe the reaction is going to be different depending on where he goes. The prosecutors made the case into a racial matter, because there where many riots and protest going on across the country at the time of the murder case. The demographics are going to be a key aspect of his new home and whether or not he is accepted. I do not think he is welcomed in the State of Florida as Pam Bondi, Florida attorney general, has already taken actions to prevent OJ back to Florida.
Was 9 years enough for a 33 year sentence? Was he let off too early because of his higher social status?
I do not believe he was released early due to his social status. I believe the fact he was well behaved and is nearly 80 years old is why he was released. At his age he no longer represents a danger to society and I believe he went about his serving his time in a reputable manner. I do not believe social status had anything to do with his release from prison as it is negligible in the court system.
How will OJ deal with going from football star, to jail, and then back to a “new” society?
He is going to need to learn to adjust to society after serving a nine year prison sentence. He is going to need learn to accept his new lifestyle of being a free person and not take his freedom for granite. Hopefully he can become a contributing member of society and no longer cause any more controversy as he enjoys his retirement.

  3. Do you believe athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as a person?

I definitely think that athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as a person. When athletes are in their prime they are showered with attention and money. They are influenced by these new aspects of their lives and do some bad things. Once out of the public spotlight, many of these athletes reflect on and are ashamed of their actions. Because of this, I think athletes n have the ability to change for the better. OJ is a different story, though. Someone psychotic enough to murder their girlfriend and then smile in court and claim that they did not do it will have a harder time changing than someone who maybe just acted poorly.

What will be the reaction of the city/town where he ends up living?

I think that the town he ends up living in will be ashamed to have one of the most notoriously disliked criminals living there. I do not think the town will gain a negative reflection because of this, but it certainly will be strange to have someone this famous for such a terrible crime living in the town.

Was 9 years enough for a 33 year sentence? Was he let off too early because of his higher social status?

I think that 9 years was not enough for his 33 year sentence. Considering the punishments certain people have to deal with, OJ’s sentence is incredibly short. I also believe that this had something to do with his higher social status, I believe that his good behavior may have gone unnoticed if he was not such a famous criminal.

How will OJ deal with going from football star, to jail, and then back to a “new” society?

I think that OJ was lay low for a while. He is pretty widely disliked and I do not think that anyone will be expecting him to step into the spotlight. After being in jail for the past 9 years I do not think OJ will be making any headlines anytime soon.

  4. I think that anyone and everyone have the ability to change as a person. I think that 9 years in prison can certainly change a person, but one of the things to be concerned about with O.J. is that he might have C.T.E., which can really mess you up mentally and could be a real concern for after he gets out of prison.

I think there will be two reactions in the town where he live: some people will think that it's awesome having O.J. Simpson living in their neighborhood because he is so famous and because he is a former NFL Pro-Bowler, but most will probably be a little bit afraid to be living near an ex-con. O.J. is not exactly the nicest guy or the most noble guy so I feel that many people will be scared living near someone who was a murder suspect and someone who participated in an armed robbery and kidnapping.

He was 100% let off because he is famous. O.J. Simpson is one of the most famous people in American society, and we see this all the time with celebrities and athletes. There are plenty of athletes who beat their wives and admit to it, but nothing happens to them because they are famous and the leagues apparently take care of it by suspending them for a few games. If O.J. was just a regular guy he would most likely still be in there and would probably be in there for 33 years.

I think it is a hard adjustment for anyone to go from prison back to the real world, but it will probably be pretty easy for O.J. because he is living in a nice neighborhood and he is going to be focusing on his golf game. Most people who go to prison do not exactly have the luxury of not having to find another job and being able to play golf all the time. Most people also do not make over $600,000 while they are in prison, but thats a different story.

  5. Questions:
Do you believe athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as a person?
Yes, I do believe that athletes like OJ have the ability to change as a person after 9 years in prison because they have lots of time to think about what they had been accused of doing, and how it ruined their life. I don’t think that after all of this time in jail he would want to commit a crime ever again that would land him back in jail for a second time.
What will be the reaction of the city/town where he ends up living?
I feel like the reaction of the city/town that he ends up living in will be negative when he ends up settling down. I feel like this because there is still a very negative connotation with him, even though he was never convicted of murder. It will be a very big deal when he does settle down, and the media will definitely be watching.
Was 9 years enough for a 33 year sentence? Was he let off too early because of his higher social status?
No, I do not think that 9 years was too early for this sentence, because he was only convicted of burglary, not murder. If he was in good behavior for 9 years, I believe that he should be let free. I do not think that it was because of his high social status, because his reputation is almost completely ruined after the trial, and he lost most of his money during the trial as well.
How will OJ deal with going from football star, to jail, and then back to a “new” society?
I feel like he will try and lay low for a couple of years after his release just to get used to the “new” society, one different from the one he left 9 years ago. After that, I think he will accept an interview (one that he will have no trouble finding), to acquire a better financial status for himself, and then i feel like he might just disappear into society again to avoid all of the criticism from the media and society.

  6. Do you believe athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as a person?
Yes I believe that payers like OJ simpson have the ability to change. Time spent in prison can give people time to reflect on their poor actions and help them learn from their mistakes. When they come out of prison they can come out a better person. Also, a lot of times famous athletes make poor decisions because they think nothing bad will happen to them since they're such important figures. This is unfortunate, but I think it is possible for people like OJ to transition out of this mentality and become more disciplined.

What will be the reaction of the city/town where he ends up living?
I think that many people in his town will not feel comfortable being around him and will look at him in disgust for the wrongdoing he committed. People and their families want to feel safe where they live, and OJ’s reputation is just so bad and scary that I think some people will want to move out of his neighborhood. Weather or not he is a better person now, I don't know, but his reputation will live on for a long time and people won't forget the bad things he's done .

Was 9 years enough for a 33 year sentence? Was he let off too early because of his higher social status?
No, I think 9 years was on the shorter end of what he deserved. He should have received a much longer sentence for the terrible things he did and the many lives he ruined. I think if he was not famous and was not of a high social status then he would not have been let off so early and probably would have spent much more time in jail. A lot of famous athletes receive less punishment compared to regular people who committed the same crimes and I think this should change in the future.

How will OJ deal with going from football star, to jail, and then back to a “new” society?
I think that OJ will try and move on with his life and live in peace after all he has been through. He will try to live the rest of his life normally and quietly now that he is out of jail and I don't think he wants people or the media paying attention to him.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I believe that everyone has the ability to change as a person. During OJ's life, he was flooded with attention and lived a somewhat surreal life. After being away from the pressure and fame of professional athletics for 9 years, he has had the chance to rethink his choices in life and what he will do once he gets out.

I think that some will welcome him, but most will try to keep their distance. Many will not accept the fact that he may have changed during his prison time. Many people will also be scared of him after his crimes. There will be a select few that bring him in with welcoming arms. Those people will see him still as a star, not a convict.

I do not think 9 years was enough for him. After the crimes he committed, he deserved to stay longer. This definitely has to do with his status. Athletes have been known to not receive the punishments they deserve. Anyone else accused of the same crimes that OJ was accused of would still be in prison right now.

It will be a hard adjustment for him, but it will still be extremely easy compared to other inmates that get let out without money or a job. OJ Simpson does not have to find a job or provide for anyone once he gets out of prison. This makes his transition back to regular life much easier because he has very few responsibilities. If OJ focuses on what he can still become, his life will be completely different from what it was before.

  8. 1. I do think that OJ Simpson and athletes like him can change. Especially if they've been in prison because this is the complete opposite of being famous and popular. This shows athletes who go to jail that they don't want to end up in there again. This is the purpose of the prison and jail system.

    2. Florida said that they didn't want him coming to their state. I think this doesn't make sense because he served his time and is on probation, he isn't a free man. I think that people will care if he moves to their town if he starts trying to get into the spotlight again because it could be seen as disruptive and annoying.

    3. I think 9 years is long enough if he has been following the rules and hasn't been a problem in the jail. It was also a unanimous vote to let him out, which makes it seem like he was well behaved. I think he may have gotten special treatment but it would be hard to tell because he isn't as popular anymore and if he has been following the rules there no need for special treatment.

    4. I think he will be a lot less loud and try to stay out of the spotlight because he isn't popular in the same way he was when he was playing. There are a lot of people in this country to don't like him and think he should've been convicted of murder so he won't look to draw attention to himself.

  9. 1. Depending on the crime, I think everyone deserves a second chance. If the athlete has shown that they can act properly, follow the laws and have the proper mindset to make a positive impact on society, then yes I think athletes like OJ Simpson can change.
    2. I think OJ will always have the crimes haunting him wherever he goes and he'll always have a bad reputation. No matter where he lives, people will doubt him as a person and publicly shame him even though he was proven innocent in his first case and let out of jail early from his sentence. It's not right for people to not fully accept him but unfortunately that's the life we live in today when people aren't looked at the same for breaking the rules then proving they've changed.
    3. Nine years is a long time in jail. He was let out because the court justice system believed in him as a person and let him go free. This case was always trending in social media and in the news. A lot of people believe the reason why is because of his high football status and that his crimes were looked passed because of that. But no, I do not believe that he was let out due to his social status.
    4. It will definitely be hard for him to adjust to the way people will look at him today. Going from a football star to a criminal takes a large toll on athletes reputations and society won't accept him as the same person they did when he was an NFL star. He will struggle a lot at first but hopefully people will understand that he's a changed man trying to better himself as a human.

  10. Do you believe athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as a person?
I do belive athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as person. OJ wants to focus on his kids, family, and getting back to his normal life. I think a lot of athletes have gone to prison for their mistakes and regretted it because of the potential they had as an athlete. But when we talk about change there are have been many instances where athletes in prison have changed for the worse. Many athletes have been most likely wrongly convicted due to their money and fame, and then their life will never be the same. It is a place that can affect you both physically and mentally and really can change your life. Aaron Hernandez went from making millions to going to prison and eventually committing suicide. The effect prison has on the athletes and on their careers is very high, but it would be wrong to say they couldn’t change for the better but they can also change for the worse as well.
What will be the reaction of the city/town where he ends up living?
OJ previously stated that he wanted to stay in Florida to be close to his kids, but that seems unlikely due to the fact that Florida attorney general Pam Bondi is preventing that. In the article it says he plans on staying in Vegas where I will think he will not be welcomed with warm hands. considering the grieve going on there already, I think the last thing they want is a convicted robber and a considered murder suspect. A lot of people dislike OJ for what he did and are not going to be smiling when they see him. Even if it is not Las Vegas, I don’t think OJ will be welcomed anywhere and the reaction will not be positive.

Was 9 years enough for a 33 year sentence? Was he let off too early because of his higher social status?

I think 9 years was not enough for a 33 year sentence. He 100% was let off early because of his higher social status and because his attorneys are tremendously good. I think most people would agree that OJ was not convicted for murder due to the fact that his attorneys were unbelievable and because of his fame. But 9 years was way too early for that sentence, certainly not enough for what he did and that the fact that he went to trial for murder should have made it even longer. If OJ was not famous I would have expected his parole to be denied.

    4. How will OJ deal with going from football star, to jail, and then back to a “new” society?
I expect to OJ to deal with this very well and not be rattled. Maybe one of the best football players to ever play, he certainly has had his good times and bad times but 9 years is really not as long of a sentence as people think. I think what will be difficult is his new society as I believe people will not be welcoming him with open arms. He still has a lot of money and will not have to find a job or start over like most other parole people. In the article it says, “He's not going to hide, he was upbeat, personable and seemed happy to get on with his life." This quote makes me feel the transition for OJ will be very easy and it will not be hard for him to adjust back to the outside world and he will be ready to deal with any grief he gets.

  11. Yes I definitely think that athletes can change as a person. Now although Simpson was alleged to have murdered his ex wife he was proven innocent. After serving time in jail for his previous crime in Las Vegas he has been in jail for the past nine years. So I do think that he and other athletes are able to change as a person. Just because they make one or two mistakes doesn't mean that they don't deserve a second chance.
I think that it is the same reaction that everyone else has had. OJ Simpson has received lost of publicity after leaving jail so I think that it was the same in Las Vegas. What I am interested in is if people will be nervous now that he is a free man once again. I'm not really sure how the reactions will be but I think that he will receive lots of publicity and lots of attention now that he is free.
Was 9 years enough for a 33 year sentence? Was he let off too early because of his higher social status?
I mean I think that he was let off at the right time. I think that the people that make these decisions are professionals and they know what they were doing. If they thought that Simpson learned his lesson and is ready to rejoin society then I trust them. I don't think that let him off because of his social status. Although he is a famous celebrity, I think that those that make these decisions know best. I don't know how he acted in jail and what his attitude was but clearly those that knew best thought that he learned his lesson and was ready leave jail.
How will OJ deal with going from football star, to jail, and then back to a “new” society?
I think that it will be really interesting how he deal with rejoining society. I definitely think that it will be tough. You hear lots of stories about convicts coming out of jail and not being able to keep up with society. I am also interested in seeing how he deals with it because he was a famous and well known celebrity before going to jail. Now he returns to society still as a celebrity but certainly a changed man.

  12. Do you believe athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as a person?
I believe athletes, like OJ, can change as a person. I believe that many athletes, when in prison or suspended, have the time to reflect on their decisions and realize that they have the potential of fame and stardom and should turn their life around. Many, many football players are charged for a crime yearly, and for many, after a suspension in the league, return to play. I do believe that they can change and move forwards as a person.
What will be the reaction of the city/town where he ends up living?
I do believe that there will be some backlash from the city/town he ends up living in because OJ is not only a convicted armed robber and kidnapper but he was famously acquitted of murder on an 11-month trial that is known as the "Trial of the Century". OJ's notoriety should lead to backlash from the public in the town/city, but I believe that by keeping a low profile, it is possible that his presence won't be a serious deal.
Was 9 years enough for a 33 year sentence? Was he let off too early because of his higher social status?
I do believe that 9 years wasn't enough for a 33 year sentence, and that he was let off too early because of his higher social status. "The Juice", a former star running back, without a doubt, got a break on his sentence due to his fame. Because celebrities and athletes and others of fame can get the best lawyers and defense, they can work towards a lower sentence. Despite this, a 9 year sentence, in the possibility of a 33 year crime, is much too short to be reasonable.
How will OJ deal with going from football star, to jail, and then back to a “new” society?
I think that OJ will have less trouble than other criminals re-entering society. Due to his fame and notoriety, OJ will get attention. In addition, OJ still has a net worth of about 19 million according to CBS Sports, so I do not think that OJ, with attention and wealth, should have a lot of trouble rejoining society.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Do you believe athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as a person?
I believe anyone no matter their background has the ability to change as a person and evolve from their old ways. OJ while his background is full of controversy and negativity he can still become a functioning, positive member of society. He will have a difficult time adapting from a life in prison, however there a programs in place for people like him to make the transition smooth and easy.
What will be the reaction of the city/town where he ends up living?
Due to his celebrity status and past history at first I would assume the town would be on edge and intrigued by him living in their community. However due to OJ being out of the spotlight for sometime now I think it will be a mostly normal feeling after maybe a week or two. There isn't much significance surrounding his presence anymore and I think over time people will soon again forget about him and his past.
Was 9 years enough for a 33 year sentence? Was he let off too early because of his higher social status?
I think nine years is fair due to his cooperation and good behavior throughout his sentence. I think the prison system should work in a way where it rewards good behavior with reduced sentences. Reform and cooperation is a principle function of the prison system and it should stay that way for inmates to change and progress.
How will OJ deal with going from football star, to jail, and then back to a “new” society?
I think OJ will look back at his past and regret decisions he made along the line. He had a very successful and luxurious career ahead of him and due to certain decisions his path was changed forever and he ended up having to serve time. I think OJ will regret those past decisions and I am sure he has already during his prison sentence. I think he won't have a difficult time adjusting to society due to his long prison sentence and his time away from the luxuries of society.

  14. 1. Yes I believe star athletes can changes perspectives. But in this case I don't think O.J. Simpson has the power to influence or change anyone. He was committed with the worst accusation anyone can really be tried with. O.J. made this mistake and still went on to believe he was somewhat invincible and made others. The charge of robbery in Las Vegas didn't really turn anyones head except for the fact that he went along to commit a crime after the murder trial. This basically goes down to say he is not someone who can change someone else's life.
    2. I think people will not get too involved, they really shouldn't give into the fact and try to avoided any events or altercations that can occur. But they should not be happy and should not. O.J. really lost all of his publicity while in prison it should be interesting to see where he will end up living.
    3. The nine years in Prison was a time to reflect on the person he could have been and now is. He lost almost everything a person can lose personally. As long as he stays out of trouble and keeps himself on track for a normal life. Personally nine years did not seem enough especially for his past, although that has no part of the trial now.
    4. He needs to realize who he is and find himself again. He will be able to make a living and calm down the storm of the last 20 plus years. He has realized he is not the football star anymore and I think he has realized that for a while. Now its just the transition from prison to real life again and how he will handle all of this.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I believe that anyone has the ability to change. No matter how bad the crime is, as long as he is willing to change than they can. Although he was not convicted of murder, he was of armed robbery. Even if he did commit murder I still think that he can change.

I think that many of the people he is living near will want to stand clear of him. Even if he doesn't cause any trouble he still has a reputation and that is enough to get people scared. Some business' might refuse service to him like restaurants, grocery stores, clothing stores.

I believe that 9 years was enough for a 33 year sentenced. If he got out early it means that he has had a change. He was behaving in prison and they believed that he was changed enough to be released to the public. If he truly has changed, he will not do anything illegal and will try to adapt to whatever community he settles in.

I believe OJ will live quieter life. He wont want as much attention. Less attention will help him adapt to society. If he keeps himself distanced from the public, he will be less likely to commit another crime.

  16. Do you believe athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as a person?

Personally I believe anyone can turn there life around. I don't believe that every person deserves a 2nd chance at freedom but they can show how they change there life overall as a person behind bars. Personally I believe OJ is guilty and deserves to sit in prison for the rest of his life, even though he was proven innocent I believe he lied and continues to lie.

What will be the reaction of the city/town where he ends up living?

I think the there will be a lot of mixed feelings about it Some people think that he has done his time and deserves his 2nd chance but others will feel as if he is guilty and don't feel comfortable with Simpson living in their neighborhood.

Was 9 years enough for a 33 year sentence? Was he let off too early because of his higher social status?

According to evidence and records he was very well behaved, he called himself a "model prisoner" and how he would help counsel other inmates. I personally believe he deserved atlas 15 years and then parol from there.

How will OJ deal with going from football star, to jail, and then back to a “new” society?

I think he will adapt quickly, he has been waiting for this day for a long time so he will continue to go back to what he was doing before he was arrested. He also said family is his priority and he is hoping to become a better christian.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1. I do believe people like OJ Simpson can change. I think everybody deserves a second chance and OJ has been a "model inmate" in prison. OJ has been a role model since his first NFL appearance and know, through his time in prison, should know how to carry himself in a way that others can look up to. He knows what it's like to be on the other end of fame and probably don't want to go back to that.
    2. The city/town he will end up living could have a couple reactions. Some could be worried and other might not care, but I don't think anybody would be really excited about it except for close friends and family. After all, he did spend 9 years in prison out of a 33 year sentence for armed robbery. He was also tried for murder.
    3. I think 9 years is a lot for anybody to serve in prison. An armed robbery is a serious crime but it's something that you can come back from. I think parole after 9 years is justified.
    4. He was a football star but I think prison has humbled him and made him a better person as he was considers a "role model." I think he can come back as a normal citizen with good morals. He knows what will happen to him if he commits a crime while on parole and obviously has no intention on going back. He just wants to go back to his friends and family and that's all he cares about.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I believe that OJ can changed but he hasn't. He wasn't convicted of murder but there was a lot of evidence against him and he was convicted of robbery 7 years later so he is a criminal. If he could change he would of kept low after the trial and not risk going through that again. But he did commit a crime and go to jail so he didn't learn his lesson.

I think football fans and fans of OJ will want to be near him and stay near him. But people who don't follow football or are not sports fans will see him as a criminal who has gotten away with a lot of things because he is a athlete and convinced the African American community that he was been accused because he was different and caused out rage.

Yes I think he was let out to early and should of spent more time and jail. He only got out because he was famous. Even tho he was behaving in prison and they believed that he has changed enough to be released to the public. If this is true we won't be hearing his name in the news for a long time.

I think he will need some time to adjust. But with the help from friends and family he will be fine and a good member of society. He needs to keep distance from the public and not get into conflicts so he doesnt break another law.

  19. Do you believe athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as a person?
Yes, everyone has the ability to change. It may be more difficult as a successful professional athlete.
What will be the reaction of the city/town where he ends up living?
They will probably be uncomfortable because of what he has done and his 1995 charges but it seems like he only has conflicts with people who he has personal problems with such as his wife and the hotel that had the footballs he thought were his.
Was 9 years enough for a 33 year sentence? Was he let off too early because of his higher social status?
I think he was probably behaving probably in prison but his social status definetly didn't hurt.
How will OJ deal with going from football star, to jail, and then back to a “new” society?
I think he will try to not draw a lot of attention, because that is what gets him in trouble.

  20. 1. Do you believe athletes like OJ Simpson have the ability to change as a person?

It is hard for me to predictable if OJ Simpson will change. I believe that anyone has the ability to change.

    2. What will be the reaction of the city/town where he ends up living?

I think that the town/city might have a negative and frightened reaction if OJ ends up living there. Most of America looks at OJ Simpson as a murderer and thinks he is guilty for his previous case. No one even wants to hire him for TV or movies since his murder case.

    3. Was 9 years enough for a 33 year sentence? Was he let off too early because of his higher social status?

For armed robbery and kidnapping, nine years was probably enough for OJ if he was well behaved in prison, but I think if OJ’s previous case was involved, he should have served much, much more time.

    4. How will OJ deal with going from football star, to jail, and then back to a “new” society?

It is hard for me to say if he will change in a more positive way. I think that he is more infamous than famous in today’s society. OJ Simpson says all he wants is to just move back to Florida and reunited with his friends and family.
